Controlling Workbook Viewing
In the previous example, you granted the View Only permission for the entire document library. Using
Office SharePoint Server’s security features, you can grant this permission at the server, site, or specific
workbook level as well.
In the previous exercise, you saw that a user with the View Only permission has the option of opening a
snapshot of the workbook. This option exists both from within the document library and when you are
viewing the workbook in the browser using Excel Services. The workbook snapshot lets the user take the
values in the workbook to view offline or to print. The snapshot does not include the formulas behind
the numbers, or the sheets or ranges that were not made viewable by the publisher. This is not the
original workbook or even a copy of it.
Not all workbook features are rendered in the snapshot. For example, if the original workbook has
conditional formatting, the snapshot does not.
