Summary
In Chapters 9 and 10, you learned how to publish a workbook to the browser and interact with it. In this
chapter, you worked with the Office SharePoint Server features for document management, together with
the Excel Services functionality, to gain control over workbook distribution. This is one of the key value
propositions of the server. Understanding how to set up and use the server to achieve this is important.
With the knowledge you gained in this chapter, you should be able to control workbook authoring, as
well as consumption. To take advantage of these features, you must change the way workbooks are
distributed in your organization.
This chapter discussed the following:
Controlling who can publish workbooks
Using content approval and approval workflows to review workbooks
Using check-in, check-out, and versioning
Controlling who can view workbooks using the View Only permission
Using workbook snapshots
Subscribing to alerts and RSS feeds to know when workbooks are updated
Auditing workbook usage
Chapter 12 builds on everything you have learned so far, and shows you how you can use Office
SharePoint Services with Excel Services functionality to create business intelligence portals and
dashboards.
