The KPI behaves much like any other SharePoint list. This means that you can use features such as alerts
and RSS on this list. For a more specialized view of KPIs in Office SharePoint Server, use the KPI Web
Part described in the next section.
Building Business Intelligence Dashboards
BI dashboards aggregate multiple views, data, and content to present a single complete picture. Using
Office SharePoint Server’s Web Part Pages and the various out-of-the-box Web Parts, you can easily
create such dashboards. The Report Center template also includes both a sample dashboard that you can
get started with, and a template for creating new ones. Following are the primary Web Parts you can use
to build a BI dashboard:
The Excel Web Access Web (EWA) Web Part to display Excel workbooks as part of the dashboard
The KPI list Web Part
Filter Web Parts that allow you to select values that the rest of the dashboard can use for filtering
