Excel 2007 Client
Enabling ASP.NET 2.0
After you have successfully installed and configured IIS 6.0, you must install Windows .NET Framework
2.0. After you do this, enable ASP.NET 2.0 as follows:
1.
Choose Start
All Programs
Administrative Tools
Internet Information Services (IIS)
Manager.
2.
Locate the IIS Manager tree and click the plus sign (+) next to the server name. Select the Web
Service Extensions folder.
3.
Select ASP.NET v2.0.50727 in the details page, and then click the Allow button. The status for
ASP.NET v2.0.50727 changes to Allowed.
You now have the software and components required for an evaluation installation of Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server 2007. To proceed with MOSS setup, you must be a member of the Administrators
group or a member of a group that is a member of the Administrators group for the server.
Excel 2007 Client
Eventually, you’ll need a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 client to fully explore the capabilities of Excel
Services and to try out the scenarios outlined throughout this topic. However, you do not need the
Excel 2007 client to install the evaluation server.
A compatible Excel 2007 workbook is made available in a SharePoint document library as part of the
evaluation server installation. The “After Setup Completes” section, later in this chapter, describes how
you can leverage that workbook on the server for evaluating Excel Services. Chapter 9 provides more
detailed information on using the Excel client with Excel Services.
The evaluation server will only load workbooks saved in either the xlsx (Excel Workbook) or the xlsb
(Excel Binary Workbook) file format. The Excel Workbook file format is the Excel 2007 default, and is an
XML-based file format. The Excel Binary Workbook file format is a binary format that is also referred to
as BIFF12. Workbooks saved by previous releases of the Excel client will not be loaded by Excel Services.
Installing an Evaluation Copy
The evaluation server installation is very straightforward. There is an option to customize a couple of
folder paths, but that step isn’t required because you can use the defaults. You can even set up MOSS
from the command line using a configuration file, but that setup approach won’t be discussed in this
book. However, you will want to consider it if you want to set up a farm with MOSS installed on
multiple servers.
