To Underline a Word
As with bold text, underlines are used to emphasize or draw attention to specifi c text. Underlined text prints
with an underscore (_) below each character. In the fl yer, the word, and, in the fi rst bulleted paragraph is emphasized
with an underline.
As with a single paragraph, if you want to format a single word, you do not need to select the word. Simply
position the insertion point somewhere in the word and apply the desired format. The following step formats a word
with an underline.

Home tab
Click somewhere in the word to be
underlined (and, in this case).
Click the Underline button on the
Home tab to underline the word
containing the insertion point
(Figure 1–51).
How would I remove an underline?
You would click the Underline
button a second time, or you
immediately could click the Undo
button on the Quick Access Toolbar.
