Table Datasheet Row and Column Resizing for Memo Fields
For Memo fields that contain many characters, you can widen the column to view more of its
contents by dragging the right edge of the field’s column selector to the right or by using
the Column Width command when you click the More button in the Records group on the
Home tab. However, increasing the column width reduces the number of other columns you
can view at the same time. Further, for Memo fields containing thousands of characters, you
can’t widen the column enough to be able to view the entire contents of the field at one
time across the width of the screen. Therefore, increasing the column width of a Memo field
seldom makes sense.
Alternatively, you can increase the row height of a datasheet by dragging the bottom edge
of a row selector down or by using the Row Height command when you click the More but-
ton in the Records group on the Home tab. Increasing the row height causes the text in a
Memo field to wrap to the next line, so that you can view multiple lines at one time. Once
again, however, for Memo fields containing thousands of characters, you can’t increase the
row height enough to ensure viewing the entire contents of the field at one time on screen.
In addition, you’d view fewer records at one time, and the row height setting for a table
propagates to all queries that have an object dependency with the table. Thus, you shouldn’t
increase the row height of a table datasheet to accommodate a Memo field.
What is the best way to view the contents of Memo fields that contain a large number of
characters? It is best to use the Zoom dialog box in a datasheet, or to use a large scrollable
text box on a form.

To review the property settings of the Memo field:

make that row the current row, and then scroll to the bottom of the list of proper-
ties in the Field Properties pane.
2. Click the Text Format text box in the Field Properties pane, and then click its
