In Depth Information
The subform is now displayed on the first page of the tab control and its design is
the same as it was before you cut and pasted it to the tab control.
8. Click the right tab of the tab control to display the second page, which is empty
because you haven’t added any controls to it yet.
After viewing the form in Form view, Sarah asks you to edit the labels for the tabs in
the tab control, so they indicate the contents of each page. Also, Sarah’s staff finds the
two sets of navigation buttons confusing—they waste time determining which set of navi-
gation buttons applies to the subform and which to the main form. You’ll set the Naviga-
tion Caption property for the main form and the subform. The Navigation Caption
property lets you change the navigation label from the word “Record” to another value.
Because the main form displays data about contracts and the subform displays data about
invoices, you’ll change the Navigation Caption property for the main form to “Contract”
and for the subform to “Invoice.”
To change the captions for the tabs and the navigation buttons:
1. Switch to Design view.
2. Click the form selector for the main form to select the form control in the main
form, open the property sheet to display the properties for the selected form control,
click the Navigation Caption text box, and then type Contract . See Figure 8-18.

3. Click the form selector for the subform to select the subform, click the form
selector for the subform again to select the form control in the subform and dis-
play the properties for the selected form control, click the Navigation Caption
text box, and then type Invoice . Navigation buttons don’t appear in Design view,
so you won’t see the effects of the Navigation Caption property settings until you
switch to Form view.
