Tip
The record source for a
primary main form must
have a one-to-many rela-
tionship to the record
source for a related sub-
form or chart. The subform
or chart object has its Link
Master Fields property set
to the primary key in the
record source to the main
form. Its Link Child Fields
property is set to the for-
eign key in the record
source to the subform
or chart.
5. Click the Next button to display the next Chart Wizard dialog box, in which you
choose the fields that link records in the main form, which uses the tblContract
table as its record source, to records in the chart, which uses the tblInvoice table
as its record source. ContractNum is the common field linking these two tables,
and you can use that field as the linking field even though you didn’t select it as a
field for the chart.
6. Click the Next button to display the final dialog box, in which you enter the title
that will appear at the top of the chart and choose whether to include a legend in
the chart.
7. Type Invoices for this Contract , make sure the Yes, display a legend option
button is selected, and then click the Finish button. The completed chart appears
in the tab control.
You’ll view the form in Form view, where it’s easier to assess the chart’s
appearance.
8. Save your form design changes, switch to Form view, navigate to record 5 in the
main form, notice the four contracts displayed in the subform, click the Invoice
Chart tab to display the chart, and then scroll down the form (if necessary). See
Figure 8-22.

After viewing the chart, Sarah decides it needs some modifications. She wants you to
change the chart type from a pie chart to a bar chart, remove the legend, and modify the
chart’s background color. You’ll make these changes by switching to Design view, and
then you’ll start Microsoft Graph so you can edit the chart.
