The Column chart is the selected chart type, and the Clustered Column chart is the
default chart subtype (row 1, column 1). A description of the selected chart sub-
type appears below the chart subtypes. You can create a custom chart by clicking
the Custom Types tab. If you click and hold down the Press and Hold to View
Sample button, you’ll see a sample of the selected subtype.
3. Click the Press and Hold to View Sample button to view a sample of the chart,
release the mouse button, and then click the OK button to close the dialog box
and change the chart to a column chart in the Graph window and in the form.
4. Click Chart on the Graph menu bar, click Chart Options to open the Chart
Options dialog box, click the Legend tab to display the chart’s legend options,
click the Show legend check box to clear it, and then click the OK button. The
legend is removed from the chart object in the Graph window and in the form.
To change the color or other properties of a chart control—the chart background
(or chart area), axes, labels to the left of the y-axis, labels below the x-axis, or data
markers (columnar bars for a column chart)—you need to double-click the control.
5. In the Graph window, double-click one of the blue data markers inside the chart to
open the Format Data Series dialog box, and then click the orange box (row 2,
column 2) in the color palette in the Area section. See Figure 8-25.
Tip
A data marker is a bar, dot,
segment, or other symbol
that represents a single
data value.
