Another way to insert a function into a formula is to use the icons in the Formulas
⇒
Function Library group.

Figure 4-3 shows these icons, each of which is a drop-down control.

When you select a function from one of these lists, Excel displays its Function Arguments dialog box to help

you enter the arguments. See the next section for more information about the Function Arguments dialog box.

Using the Insert Function dialog box

The Insert Function dialog box is another way to enter a function into a formula. Using the Insert Function dia-

log box ensures that you spell the function correctly and that it contains the proper number of arguments in the

correct order.

To insert a function, select the function from the Insert Function dialog box, as shown in Figure 4-4. You access

this dialog box in several ways:

• Choose Formulas
⇒
Function Library
⇒
Insert Function.

• Choose any icon category in the Formulas
⇒
Function Library group, and select Insert Function from the

drop-down list.

• Click the
fx
icon to the left of the Formula bar.

• Press Shift+F3.
