Optimize a result with
Excel gives you a powerful tool for finding a way to
reach your goals. For example, if you need a loan for
a new home your goal might be to pay a specific
monthly payment. You can use the Goal Seek feature
to show how you can reach your goal by adjusting one
of the loan terms such as interest rate or loan amount.
You could also have Goal Seek find the interest rate
required to reach your payment goal, given a loan
amount, or find the loan amount required to reach
your goal, given a specific interest rate. Some goals
cannot be met, as when you try to reduce your
monthly payment to nothing; the interest rates and
loan amounts would be unrealistic.
To vary multiple inputs to achieve a specific goal,
you need to use Solver, an add-in. See Task #94 for
more about add-ins.
