Creating dependencies between plans
In the consolidated plan, the
cross-plan link appears as a normal task link.
Because you are looking at a consolidated plan that shows the tasks from both plans,
the cross-plan link does not appear as an external task.
The following are a few additional tips and suggestions for working with cross-plan links:
▪ You can turn off the display of external tasks if you want. To do this, on the File tab,
click Options. In the Project Options dialog box, on the Advanced tab, under Cross
Project Linking Options For <File Name>, clear the Show External Successors and
Show External Predecessors check boxes.
▪ When viewing a consolidated plan, you can create cross-plan links quickly by clicking
the Link Tasks button on the Task tab. Dragging the mouse between two task bars will
do the same thing.
▪ Each time you open a plan with cross-plan links, Project prompts you to update the
cross-plan links. You can suppress this prompt if you would rather not be reminded,
or you can tell Project to accept updated data from the linked plan automatically.
To do this, on the File tab, click Options. In the Project Options dialog box, on the
Advanced tab, under Cross Project Linking Options For <File Name>, select the
options you want.
