Assignment 2B: Documenting Your Recommendations in a Memo
Use Microsoft Word to write a brief memo to the company president, Kathy Green. State the results of your
analysis and recommend which Sales and Operations plan you think Green Jeans should adopt. Recall from
earlier in the case that Kathy is leaning toward the HR manager
s proposal, which would not lay off workers.
Does your optimal plan lay off any workers? Your memo should observe the following requirements:
￿
Set up your memo as described in Tutorial E.
￿
In the first paragraph, briefly describe the situation and state the purpose of your analysis.
￿
Next, summarize the results of your analysis and state your recommended action.
￿
Support your recommendation with your Summary of Results table copied from the Excel
workbook. (For a brief description of how to copy and paste Excel objects, see Tutorial C.)
￿
You should also copy your chart from the Excel workbook into the memo for maximum visual
impact.
￿
In a future case, you might suggest extending the Sales and Operations plan to 12 months
instead of six to capture all the seasonal trends in clothing retail. If the Sales Department can
provide an accurate 12-month sales forecast, you could recalculate the different proposals for the
plan.
ASSIGNMENT 3: GIVING AN ORAL PRESENTATION
Your instructor may request that you give your analysis and recommendations in an oral presentation. If so,
assume that company president Kathy Green wants your presentation to last 10 minutes or less. When
preparing your presentation, use PowerPoint slides or handouts that you think are appropriate. Tutorial F
explains how to prepare and give an effective oral presentation.
