Adding Tiny Charts to Each Row
Professor Edward Tufte started writing about tiny word-sized charts back
in 2007. He dubbed these charts sparklines.
Excel 2010 offered support for these charts. The chart fills up the avail-
able space in a cell. After using sparklines for a while, I believe that they
look better when they are bigger than the normal cell. Before creating the
sparklines in the next two examples, I made column N wider and also made all
of the rows in the data set taller.
Figure 2.37 shows a Line sparkline for each customer. You can see if the cus-
tomer s purchases increased or decreased throughout the year.
