Understanding Error Messages in Formulas
######
###### This is not really an error. Instead, it means that the res-
ult is too wide to display in the current column width, so you need to
make the column wider to see the actual result.
Caution
Whereas ###### usually means the column is not wide enough, Excel
also uses this symbol to indicate that you are subtracting a later
date or time from an earlier date or time. If making the column wider
does not clear the ###### signs, check the formula bar to see if your
formula might be subtracting dates.
In Figure 9.4 , cell E17 is a simple SUM function. It is returning an #N/A error
because cell E11 contains the same error. Cell E11 contains the formula
=D11*C11. The root cause of the problem is the VLOOKUP function in cell D11.
Because Dill cannot be found in the product table in $G$7:$H$9, the VLOOKUP
function returns #N/A.
