Examples of Database Functions
Eleven of the 12 database functions are similar. DSUM, DAVERAGE, DCOUNT,
DCOUNTA, DMAX, DMIN, DPRODUCT, DSTDEV, DSTDEVP, DVAR, and DVARP all
perform the equivalent operation of their non-D equivalents, but they allow
for complex criteria to include records that meet certain criteria. See ex-
amples of each of these in Figure 12.51 .

To save you the hassle of looking up the confusing few, DCOUNT counts nu-
meric cells, and DCOUNTA counts nonblank cells. DSTDEV and DVAR cal-
culate the standard deviation and variance of a sample of a population,
respectively. DSTDEVP and DVARP calculate the standard deviation and
variance of the entire population, respectively. The 12th database function,
DGET, has the same arguments, but it acts a bit differently, as explained
later in this chapter.
