LOOKING JUST A LITTLE FURTHER: IIS WEB SITE AUTHENTICATION
Something we didn’t check with SharePoint-80 that bears knowing is the authentication type
used for the IIS Web Site. Both SharePoint-80 and Central Administration use the same method,
Windows authentication. To confirm, you can click Features View at the bottom of the content
pane and then double-click the Authentication icon. It will open a dialog box showing that, out
of all the authentication options IIS can support, the types enabled are ASP.NET impersonation
(so SharePoint can use the authenticated user’s credentials when accessing pages, views, and
objects) and Windows authentication.
