SERVICE CONNECTION POINT ERROR
You might notice, after you finish the installation and configuration, that there is a SharePoint error
in the application log of Event Viewer about a service connection point. This is caused by a new (and,
in my opinion, not quite ready for prime time) feature of SharePoint that allows Active Directory to
keep track of SharePoint installations. It requires that you configure Active Directory, using ADSI
Edit (available under Administrative Tools on the Domain Controller), to create a container called
Microsoft SharePoint Products, give authenticated users Create serviceConnectionPoint Object
permissions to it, and ensure, generally using Group Policy, that the servers have a registry key for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SharePoint, with a string value for
ContainerDistinguishedName that exactly matches the distinguished name of the Microsoft
SharePoint Products container.
