In Depth Information
When SharePoint adds a new web application, it assigns the application a virtual directory in the
wss folder under the default site for IIS. T his v ir tual director y generally, if the ISS Web Site is unique
by its port, names the folder after that site’s port number. This means that Central Administration’s
folder should be 9768 (at least in my case; you might’ve used a different number)—but it isn’t.
SharePoint randomly gave it a different number. Something I think you should know.
To see what number SharePoint used to name the virtual directory for the Central Administration
website, open the IIS Manager console (Start Administrative Tools Internet Information
Services (IIS) Manager), double-click the local server node, and double-click Sites in the Connections
pane until you can see the icon for Central Administration v4. Click the plus sign next to Central
Administration in the Connections pane.
