In the top link bar are a few items that deserve a closer look:
Home Tab In most cases (unless you specifically remove it), there is a tab in the top link bar
for the home page (even if you’re on the home page). If the site collection has subsites, their
links can be located here for easy navigation.
Search Also located in the top link bar is the search field, used to search for content
anywhere in the site collection. Search is security-filtered, meaning that if there is a site,
document, or list item that your account is not allowed to see, it won’t show up in the search
results. This field directly relates to the Search service that we enabled in the installation
chapters. To use it, just enter the word (or words) for which you are looking, exact matches
only. Search doesn’t perform partial-word matching or Boolean logic, but it can do additions
or exceptions. You can include or exclude words using the plus (+) or minus (–) sign (for
example, orange -juice +zest).
A FEW MORE DETAILS ABOUT SEARCH
Search will index list item contents (the contents of all fields of all lists and libraries), as well as the
contents of files stored in libraries, as long as those file types can be indexed. Indexing uses iilters
index filters ) specific for the file type they will be indexing. SharePoint can index Office files, as well as
HTML and TIFF files, automatically. To index other kinds of files, you’ll need to get iilters for them.
