5 . Once you’ve set up the field the way you like it, click OK. The new site column will show up in the
Custom Columns group and is ready for use anywhere that a list in this site collection needs it.
Note that if you want to further customize a custom site column, you must do it at the gallery level.
And when you do that, those customizations will then affect the site column’s settings site-wide.
C R E A T I N G A C A L E N D A R V I E W
A Calendar view of a list is just another way to display the list items. You may recall that in
Chapter 6 you created some new views of lists, but they were standard views; that is, they were
still in a list format. Also in Chapter 6, you looked at the site’s built-in calendar, which I said is
just a Calendar view of an Events list. But you can create a Calendar view of any list that
contains a date field.
Take these steps to create a Calendar view:
1. On the Customer list, go to the Create View page by clicking Create View on the List
ribbon. (Or use the breadcrumb drop-down or List Settings page.)
2. In the Create View page that opens, choose the Calendar View format.
3. For the View name, my example uses Birthdays, in this case you want to make this a
Personal view so it won’t be available to other users.
