Applications link under Actions in the Actions pane will list the new Web Site’s root and layout
paths, as shown in Figure 10.73.

Let’s take a look at what SharePoint shows with this new public URL. Go to Central
Administration’s Application Management page, and under the Web Applications category,
click Configure Alternate Access Mappings. This will take you to the page shown in Figure 10.74.
This page lists all the current internal URLs and public URLs in the SharePoint farm. Any
incoming request is examined to see whether it matches one of the internal URLs. If it does, the
server responds with the path shown in the corresponding public URL. If the request doesn’t
match an internal URL, the server responds with the public URL of the default zone on
whatever port the request was received on.
