SERVICES IN TASK MANAGER COMPARED TO THE CONSOLE
I like to use the Task Manager as a quick way to check what services are running and what resources
they are using. Also, with Server 2008 and higher, you can quickly open the Services console from
the Services tab in the Task Manager.
However, the Task Manager is not where you manage services. For example, you can stop a service’s
processes from Task Manager, but you can’t start a service from there. So if you need to change the
service’s identity or its startup method, the console is the place. To quickly see whether a service
is running acceptably, Task Manager is your friend.
It might take a while for the installation progress bar to complete. Then the installer will
begin applying updates (Figure 2.28), which may take even longer.
