4. Verify that Sheet appears in the Within box to limit the find and replace to the
current worksheet only.
5. Click the Replace All button. Excel finds and replaces the search string wherever
it appears in the current worksheet. A dialog box opens, indicating that Excel has
completed its search and made two replacements.
6. Click the OK button to close the dialog box.
7. Select the text in the Find what box, type Ln. as the new search string, press the
Tab key, and then type Lane in the Replace with box. You want to replace all
instances of this search string.
8. Click the Replace All button to make the replacement wherever it appears in the
worksheet, and then click the OK button to close the dialog box that indicates
Excel has completed its search and made one replacement.
9. Select the text in the Find what box, type Dr. as the new search string, press the
Tab key, and then type Drive in the Replace with box. Because “Dr.” is also the
abbreviation for “Doctor,” you must review each “Dr.” abbreviation and replace
only the ones within an address.
10. Click the Find Next button. The next occurrence of “Dr.” in the worksheet occurs
in cell B8 with the text, “Dr. Lilla.”
11. Click the Find Next button to ignore this occurrence. The next occurrence of
“Dr.” is in the mailing address for Tony Rhoden.
12. Click the Replace button to replace this text. The only other occurrence of “Dr.”
in the worksheet—“Dr. Lilla”—is highlighted again. You’ve finished finding and
replacing text in the worksheet.
13. Click the Close button to close the Find and Replace dialog box.
Using the Spelling Checker
Another editing tool is the spelling checker. Although the spelling checker’s dictionary
includes a large number of words, as well as common fi rst and last names and places,
many words you use in workbooks might not be included. If the spelling checker fi nds
