Although the date in the Documentation worksheet is formatted to display as text, it
is right-aligned in the cell (because Excel treats dates and times as numbers). You’ll use
the Alignment group buttons to left-align the date in the Documentation worksheet and
center the column titles in the Yearly Sales worksheet.
To left-align the date and center the column titles:
1. If necessary, select cell .
2. In the Alignment group on the Home tab, click the Align Text Left button
. The
date shifts to the left edge of the cell.
3. Click the Yearly Sales sheet tab to make that worksheet active, and then select
the nonadjacent range C6:F6;C17:F17 .
4. In the Alignment group, click the Center button
. The column titles in
columns C, D, E, and F are centered.
Indenting Cell Content
Sometimes you want a cell’s content moved a few spaces from the cell left edge. This is
particularly useful for entries that are considered subsections of a worksheet. For
example, Tom recorded sales for eight regions and then added the totals. Each region can be
considered a subsection, and Tom thinks it would look better if the region labels were
indented a few spaces. You increase the indentation by roughly one character space each
time you click the Increase Indent button in the Alignment group on the Home tab. To
decrease or remove an indentation, click the Decrease Indent button.
You’ll increase the indent for the region labels.
