Back to Work is a nonprofi t agency in Minneapolis, Minnesota,
that helps people who want to develop skills for the contemporary
workforce, such as retirees and parents who are returning to careers
after raising a family. Back to Work creates customized plans for
people preparing for full- or part-time work. Elena Varney, the
director of the agency, coordinates training sessions on developing a
wide range of computer skills.
Elena recently hired you to teach some introductory computer
classes. Your fi rst class on using the Microsoft Windows 7 operating
system meets next week. To help you prepare for your class, Elena
offers to walk you through the curriculum, from starting the
computer and opening and closing programs to shutting down the
computer. In this tutorial, you will start Windows 7 and practice some
fundamental computer skills. Then, you’ll learn how to navigate
using the Computer window and Windows Explorer. Finally, you’ll
use the Windows 7 Help system and turn off Windows 7.
