Inserting an Action Button

PowerPoint draws your button and opens the Action Settings dialog box, shown
in Figure 22-9. This dialog box lists the actions that can happen when someone
clicks the action button during a slideshow.
When you select an action, the drop-down list beneath it goes live. So, for
example, if you want a click to advance to the next slide, you’d turn on the “Hyperlink
to” radio button and select Next Slide from the drop-down list.
PowerPoint has a list of built-in sounds, from applause to a drumroll to a
cashregister “cha-ching” to an explosion. Select any of these sounds, or choose “Oth-
er sound” to use an audio file stored on your computer.
PowerPoint puts the action in your action button. Now, when you click the
button (or pass the mouse pointer over it, depending on what you chose),
PowerPoint will perform whatever action you specified.
Use the Action Settings dialog box to add an action to a
button on your slide. The “Run macro” option is available only
if you’ve recorded a macro in PowerPoint. For the “Object
action” option to be available, you must have inserted a file
as an object (page 575) in the presentation. If you want the
action to happen when someone passes the mouse over the
button, click the Mouse Over tab, which has the same settings.
