What is a spreadsheet?
ribbon is. Both of these topics are covered for Word in Chapter 1, and Excel works
on exactly the same principles. So if you haven’t run through the project in
Chapter 1 yet, why not write a letter now? By the end of the project in this chapter you’ll
have all your addresses under control so will easily be able to fi nd out where to
send it!
What is a spreadsheet?
When you open Excel, it should look familiar to you. Across the top, you’ll see the
ribbon, with some controls you know from Word and some new ones. The most
striking difference between Word and Excel is that Excel’s main document area is
divided into a grid, like graph paper (see Figure 4.1).
