Create a PivotTable from External Data
Chapter 6: Analyzing Data with PivotTables
The Select Database dialog
box appears.

To create a data source, click the Data tab,
click From Other Sources, and then click
From Microsoft Query. In the Choose Data
Source dialog box, click New Data Source.
Click to deselect the Use the Query
Wizard to Create/Edit Queries check box,
and then click OK. In the Create New Data
Source dialog box, type a name for your
data source, select the database driver
that your data source requires, and then
click Connect.

You can reduce the size of the new
PivotTable by including only those fields
that you need to use. In the Query Wizard -
Choose Columns dialog box, each table has
a plus sign (+). Click a table’s plus sign to
display a list of that object’s fields, or
columns, as the Query Wizard calls them.
You can then click a field and click the >
button to add it to the list of fields to be
used with your PivotTable.
