Creating a Table in Design View
You can also use Design view to add tables and i elds. Design view of ers more control over
i eld structure and properties. Design view is also well-suited for controlling i eld data types
and descriptions.
When creating a table using Design view, create the table’s structure in the Design view and
then switch to Datasheet view to enter or import data.
To add a table to a database using Design view:

With Table1 of the SCRATCH database still in Datasheet view, click Create > Table
Design (not Table).
The new table appears as a separate tab in Design view. Look at the status bar at the
bottom of the window. Design view appears on the left side of the status bar, and the
Design View icon is active on the right side.
Notice the Status bar shows the Design view icon when selected.
Adding i elds to a table
To add i elds to a table in Design view:

For each i eld, enter a i eld name, assign a data type, and enter a description as shown in
the table below.

Does the player hit right-, left-, or switch-handed?

Does the player throw right- or left-handed?

Batting average
For many i elds, a description might seem unnecessary, but you should enter a
description for any i eld that might have an unclear name. The description will appear in
that table’s status bar when the i eld is selected using Datasheet view; this can be helpful
to others when entering data.
