Understanding Microsoft Word
Microsoft Word is an application for creating, editing, formatting, and sharing professional
looking documents. Word 2010 also includes tools for editing and revising your work, as
well as collaborating with others to create great documents to share in print or online. Your
documents can include text and graphics, and you can use Microsoft Word to adjust the
formatting and appearance of them through a variety of layout controls.
Creating a new document from template
When creating a new document, you can select a template from several choices that are
included within Word, or from templates that are available online. All documents are built on
templates. The template controls the appearance of the i nal document—such as the number
of columns, whether page numbers are included on the bottom, and the overall size and
width of the pages in a document. You can choose a template from the Available Templates
page, or create a blank document. Blank documents are also based on a template called the
Normal template. The Normal template of ers styles to help you format your pages and
control the look of a blank document.
