Indenting paragraphs
You can use left, center, right, decimal, or bar tabs to line up information in columns and
control how the text aligns in relation to other text. Using tabs ensures that the information
lines up correctly.
Word places tabs every .5 inches across the page between the left and right margins, although you
can easily customize the location of the tabs.

Choose File > Open, and navigate to word04lesson.

Locate the i le word0403, then press Open.

Click View. In the Show group section of the Ribbon, select Ruler if the ruler checkbox
is not already selected.

Click the tab indicator ( ) on the top left of the document to select the type of tab you
want to set. Each time you click the tab indicator, a new tab option becomes visible.

Select Left tab.

Left tab
Traditional tab stop
Center tab
Centers text, frequently used for titles or
headings
Right tab
Right justifies the text
Decimal tab
Aligns the decimals in numbers regardless
of the numbers to the left or right of the
decimal
Bar tab
Inserts a vertical bar at the tab position

Place your cursor after the title, then press Enter twice.

Click the horizontal ruler on the 2 inch mark to add a tab. Word displays a tab where
you clicked.

Type Mandy and Jim .

Press Tab, type 112-3334 , and press Enter.
