Inserting column breaks
If you want to apply columns to only part of the document, it is important to place your cursor
where you want the columns to begin.
Inserting column breaks
Word gives you the tools to insert a column break where you want it. For example, you
might want to break a column to begin the next column in a dif erent place from where
Word has automatically separated the i rst from the second column.
In this exercise, you’ll insert a column break.

In the word0501_done document, place the cursor in the bottom of the i rst column to
the left of the word In, in the sentence beginning “ In an exciting, yet somewhat unexplained
series of events…

On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click the down arrow to the right of
the Breaks icon.
The Breaks menu gives you options to insert page and section breaks.

Select Column. Word breaks the column at the insertion point.

Click File > Save, and then click File > Close.
