Understanding the Excel Help System
h When a Help topic is displayed, you can copy some or all of the text. Just highlight the
text, and press Ctrl+C. Or, right-click and choose Copy.
h Context-sensitive help is spotty. For example, if an Excel dialog box is displayed, pressing
F1 (or clicking the question mark icon on the dialog box title bar) displays the Help
window. In some cases, the Help information relates to what you’re doing. In other cases,
you’re presented with the opening screen of the Excel Help system. In the latter case, you
can use the Search box to find the information that should have been displayed for you
automatically.
h You have no way to display the Office Help window if an Office application is not running.
In versions prior to Office 2007, you could double-click a *.CHM help file, and the help
file would be displayed. That’s no longer possible in Office 2007 or Office 2010 because
of the new Help system technology that’s used.
