Revealing existing formatting
use the style Inspector
1 On the Home tab, in the Styles group, click the dialog box launcher
(shortcut, Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S).
2 At the bottom of the Styles pane, click the Style Inspector button.
3 In the Style Inspector dialog box, click or select the document text
for which you need to reveal the sources of the current format.
4 In the Paragraph Formatting section of the Style Inspector dialog
box, read the name of the selection’s paragraph style and any direct
paragraph formatting that was applied there.
5 In the Text Level Formatting section, read the name of the selec-
tion’s character style and any direct character formatting that was
applied there.
6 To remove the paragraph style, character style, or direct formatting,
you can click any of the four Clear buttons adjacent to each.

TIP The Clear Character Style button in the Style Inspector
dialog box is the only way to remove a character style from the
selection without affecting any other formatting that was applied
there.

TIP If you select text that has more than one style or different
kinds of direct formatting, one or more of the boxes in the Style
Inspector will be blank. If this happens, select a smaller part of the text.
