Designing a template
2 On the Quick Access Toolbar, Click the Save icon. Click Computer
and then click Browse.
3 In the Save As dialog box, change the Save As Type box to Word
Template (*.dotx), which automatically sets the path to the Custom
Office Templates folder. Enter a file name and click Save.
4 Open the header or footer pane and insert any header or footer
building blocks, text, and graphics that should repeat on every
page.
5 If the template is intended as the base for documents such as
invoices or letters, on the Header & Footer Tools | Design contex-
tual tab, in the Options group, select the Different First Page check
box and place a logo and/or address information in the first page
header.
6 On the Header & Footer Tools | Design contextual tab, click Close
Header And Footer.

TIP If you include a Date field in your template, that field will
update to the current date every time you open a document
based on the template. If you want each document to show the date
that document was created, insert a CreateDate field in the template
instead of a Date field. For more information about inserting fields, see
“Using the Field dialog box” on page 200.
