1 Using the mouse or arrow keys, place the text cursor at the begin-
ning of the text to be selected.
2 Hold down the Shift key while you use the arrow keys to move to
the end of the desired selection.
3 To select a word, hold down both the Ctrl and Shift keys while
pressing the left or right arrow key.
4 To select a paragraph, hold down both the Ctrl and Shift keys while
pressing the up or down arrow key.
5 To select everything in the main body of the document (not includ-
ing headers, footers, footnotes, or endnotes), press Ctrl+A.
TRY THIS The F8 key turns on Extend Mode. Press F8 once
and move the cursor with the mouse or arrow keys, and Word
will select continuously until you press Esc. Press F8 twice to select the
