APPENDIX: USING DATA ANALYSIS IN EXCEL MAC 2011 AND EXCEL 2003
Excel Mac 2011 does not have the Data Analysis ToolPak. If you are using the Mac
Excel 2011 and you need a similar option to the Windows versions, download and
use the free StatPlus:mac LE from AnalystSoft ( www.analystsoft.com/en/products/
The Analysis ToolPak for Excel 2003 or previous versions works exactly the
same way in previous versions of Excel. The only notable differences are in how to
launch and activate it, if it is not pre-installed when you start Excel.
To use the Data Analysis in Excel 2003 or other versions, go to Tools
Analysis. See Figure 14.10. You will
nd the Histogram on the menu.
1. Use the data on the sheet Apartments Sales Data, with the results shown on
Figure 14.1 to calculate the regression line and R 2 using the Analysis ToolPak.
2. Use the data on the sheet Apartments Sales Location, which has information
about the dependent variable Price and three independent variables: Apartment
Size, number of Bathroom, and whether the apartment has a City address.
Calculate the regression coef
3. Use the data on the sheet named Corner. This sheet has one additional variable
to the data of question 2, Corner. Calculate the regression coef
and residuals. If an apartment has 1,500 square feet with two bathrooms, is
located in the city and is not a corner apartment, can you estimate its price?
