Chapter 18: Using Scroll Bars for Sensitivity Analysis
Incremental change is the value by which the variable will change when a
single click is performed on either of the end arrows of the scroll bar. (I chose to
Page change is the incremental change when you click on the gray area of the
scroll bar between the arrows and the center scroll bar. (I chose 3.)
Cell link designs the original cell I want to control with the scroll bar. Since we
are defining for the number of years, select B6.
See Figure 18.6.
Complete the form and click OK. Then click on any cell in your worksheet and
you may use the scroll bar.
When you click on either arrow of the scroll bar, it will change the number of
years by one. It will vary the number of years from one to 10. The page change was
set to be three. When you click in the gray area of the scroll bar, it will change the
value by three. See Figure 18.7.
When you complete the scroll bar for the number of years, you will understand
how simple and powerful it is. It is also a great tool for dynamic presentation pur-
poses. Your audience can see the impact of the change in your input as you slide the
scroll bar. You can try the scroll bar on other input parameters.
Now try the scroll bar on cell B2, the price. You can vary the price from $10,000
to $30,000 with an Incremental change of $1,000 and Page change of $5,000. See
Figure 18.8. Remember, Incremental change is the single programmed value evolu-
tion any time you click on the scroll bar arrows and Page change is the incremental
change when you click on the gray area of the scroll bar between the arrows and the
center scroll bar.
