Session 4.2
Once you have stored a piece of art as an electronic file, you can insert it into a docu-
ment using the Picture command options on the Insert menu. You’ll have a chance to
explore some of these options in the Case Problems at the end of this tutorial.
If you don’t have time to prepare your own art work, you can take advantage of clip
art —a collection of ready-made images. A number of clip art selections are stored on your
computer when you install Microsoft Word. You can also download additional clip art from
the Web. (You’ll have a chance to look for clip art on the Web in the Case Problems at the
end of this tutorial.) You begin inserting clip art by opening the Clip Art task pane. From
there you can search for images that are stored on your computer or on the Web. Then you
copy an image to the Clipboard, and paste the image into the document.
To add visual appeal to the Travel in Style newsletter, you will insert a piece of clip art.
Max wants you to use a clip art object that reflects the newsletter content.
To insert the clip art image of an airplane into the newsletter:
1. If you took a break after the previous session, make sure Word is still running, the file
Travel Clothes is open, the document is in Print Layout view, and the nonprinting charac-
ters are displayed. Also verify that the Drawing toolbar is displayed.
2. Click the Insert Clip Art button on the Drawing toolbar. The Clip Art task pane opens,
as shown in Figure 4-12. You use the top part of the Clip Art task pane to search for graph-
ics related to a specific topic. You can click the Organize clips option (near the bottom) to
open the Clip Organizer window, where you can browse among the various clip art images
stored on your computer. You’ll use the Clip Organizer to insert an image into the newslet-
ter. You’ll have a chance to try the Search for option in the Case Problems at the end of this
tutorial. If someone recently used your Clip Art task pane to search for graphics, you may
see the search topic in the Search for text box.
