The same spreadsheet in Excel

Excel stores electronic spreadsheets in files called workbooks . Each workbook is made
up of individual worksheets , or sheets , just as a spiral-bound ledger, which an accountant
would use, is made up of sheets of paper. You will learn more about multiple worksheets
later in the tutorial. For now, keep in mind that the terms worksheet and sheet are often
used interchangeably.
Parts of the Excel Window
Excel displays workbooks within a window that contains many tools for entering, editing,
and viewing data. You will learn about some of these tools after starting Excel. By default,
Excel opens with a blank workbook.
To start Excel:
1. Click the Start button on the taskbar, point to All Programs , point to Microsoft Office ,
and then click Microsoft Office Excel 2003 . The Excel window opens. See Figure 1-3.
