Linking an Object from Excel to Word

Linking an Object
Start the source program, open the file containing the object to be linked, select the
object or information you want to link to the destination program, and then click the
Copy button on the Standard toolbar.
Start the destination program, open the file that will contain the link to the copied
object, position the insertion point where you want the linked object to appear, click Edit
on the menu bar, and then click Paste Special.
Click the Paste link option button in the Paste Special dialog box, select the option you
want in the As list box, and then click the OK button.

In the source file, select the object or information you want to link, and then click the
Copy button on the Standard toolbar.
Start the destination program, open the file that will contain the linked object, and then
position the insertion point where you want to place the object.
Click the Paste button on the Standard toolbar in the destination program.
Click the Paste Options button that appears in the document window, and then click a
linking option on the menu.
Now you will link the growth table to the letter using the Paste Options button. This button
appears when you paste text or other information from one Office document to another. You
first need to open the LHCGrowth workbook, and then select the table object for linking.
To link the table to the letter:
1. Click the Microsoft Excel button on the taskbar to switch back to Excel, click the Open
button on the Standard toolbar to open the Open dialog box, navigate to the
Tutorial.01\Tutorial folder included with your Data Files, and then double-click the Excel
workbook LHCGrowth .
2. Save the workbook as Growth Table in the same folder.
3. Select cells A6 through F12 , and then click the Copy button
on the Excel Standard
toolbar to copy the data to the Clipboard.
4. Click the Hospital Letter - Microsoft Word button on the taskbar to return to the hospi-
tal letter.
5. Scroll the document and position the insertion point to the left of the paragraph mark
above the paragraph that begins “We would like the opportunity.” This is where you want
the table to appear. See Figure 1-13.
