Case Problem 2
Data File needed for this Case Problem: Fitness.mdb ( cont. from Tutorial 2 )
Parkhurst Health & Fitness Center Martha Parkhurst is completing an analysis of the
members enrolled in different programs in the fitness center. To help her find the informa-
tion she needs, you’ll query the Fitness database by completing the following:
Create
Follow the steps
provided and use the
figures as guides to cre-
ate queries for a health
and fitness center.
1. Open the Fitness database located in the Brief\Case2 folder provided with your
Data Files.
2. Define a one-to-many relationship between the primary Program table and the
related Member table. Resize the field lists, as necessary, to display all the field
names. Select the referential integrity option and the cascade updates option for the
relationship.
3. Use Design view to create a select query based on the Member and Program tables.
Display the fields FirstName, LastName, DateJoined, MonthlyFee, and
PhysicalRequired, in that order. Sort in descending order based on the DateJoined
field values. Select only those records with a PhysicalRequired field value of Yes. Save
the query as PhysicalsNeeded , and then run the query. Switch to Design view and
modify the query so that the PhysicalRequired values do not appear in the query
results. Save the modified query, and then run the query.
4. Use the PhysicalsNeeded datasheet to update the Member table by changing the
DateJoined value for the first record in the datasheet to 10/18/2007. Print the
datasheet, and then close the query.
5. Use Design view to create a select query based on the Member and Program tables.
For all members who joined the center between 06/01/2007 and 06/30/2007, display
the MemberID, FirstName, LastName, DateJoined, Description, and MonthlyFee
fields. Save the query as JuneMembers , run the query, print the query results, and
then close the query.
6. Create and save the query whose results are shown in Figure 3-41. Print the query
datasheet, and then close the query.
