Renaming, Moving, and Deleting Files
T O M OVE A F ILE U SING W INDOWS 7
If you are using Windows 7, perform these steps to move a le instead of the
previous steps that use Windows 8.
1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the location of the le to be moved
(in this case, the Excel folder in the CIS 101 folder [or your class folder]
in the Documents library).
2. Click the Excel folder in the navigation pane to display the les it contains
in the right pane.
3. Drag the Inverstonit Electronics Income and Expenses le in the right
pane to the CIS 101 folder in the navigation pane.

To Delete a File
A nail task you may want to perform is to delete a le. Exercise extreme caution when deleting a le or les.
When you delete a le from a hard disk, the deleted le is stored in the Recycle Bin where you can recover it until
you empty the Recycle Bin. If you delete a le from removable media, such as a USB ash drive, the le is deleted
permanently. The next steps delete the Inverstonit Electronics Income and Expenses le from the CIS 101 folder.
Why? When a le no longer is needed, you can delete it to conserve space in your storage location. If you are using Windows 7,
skip these steps and instead perform the steps in the yellow box that immediately follows these Windows 8 steps.

Press and hold or right-click the Inverstonit Electronics Income
and Expenses icon or le name in the right pane to select the
le and display a shortcut menu (Figure 88).

Tap or click Delete on the shortcut menu to delete the le.
If a dialog box appears, tap or click the Yes button to delete
the le.

Can I use this same technique to delete a folder?
Yes. Right-click the folder and then click Delete on the
shortcut menu. When you delete a folder, all of the les and
folders contained in the folder you are deleting, together
with any les and folders on lower hierarchical levels, are
deleted as well.
