6.5 Finding the Regression Equation
The main reason for charting the relationship between X and Y (i.e., weight as X
and eggs produced as Y in our example) is to see if there is a strong enough
relationship between X and Y so that the regression equation that summarizes
this relationship can be used to predict Y for a given value of X.
Since we know that the correlation between the weight of the fish and the
number of eggs produced is
.87 , this tells us that it makes sense to use weight
to predict eggs produced based on past data.
