Inserting Symbols and Special Characters
When you want to add a symbol to your document, follow these steps:
1. Click to position the insertion point at the place you want to add the symbol.
2. On the Insert tab, click the Symbol tool in the Symbols group.
3. Click the symbol you want to add. If you don’t see the symbol you need, click More
Symbols at the bottom of the Symbol list.
In the Symbol dialog box (see Figure 7-12), click the Font arrow to choose the font
you want to use.
5. Click the symbol you want in the displayed gallery and click Insert.

Using the Keyboard to Insert Symbols
You can also insert symbols directly from the keyboard. You can use built-in keyboard
commands, assign your own keyboard shortcuts, or create AutoCorrect entries to insert
symbols. To find the keyboard command for a symbol, display the Symbol dialog box,
click a symbol, and view the Shortcut key, shown at the bottom of the dialog box.
Using the keyboard to insert symbols is a little different from other keyboard shortcuts.
You might need to hold Alt and simultaneously press the numbers provided (ASCII
character code) on the numeric keypad; other symbols might use two consecutive key
board commands, which are identified with a comma separation. For example, to insert
