What’s New in Excel Services 2013
Excel Services now provides the field list option on the Web. Users can change the fields list
on the fly from their browser to suit their analytical needs. For this feature to work, the data
source of the PivotTable should be based on the SSAS data source.
The Quick explore option. You can use this to easily drill down from a value in the PivotTable
or PivotChart.
Calculated members and measures that are created from an Excel client can be used in
Excel Services.
Power View reports that are created using the Excel client can be published as part of Excel
A new time-line control for selecting date ranges for filtering PivotTables and Pivot Charts.
Backup and Recovery Operation
Excel Services supports backup and restore operations, with a few exceptions that are mentioned next. You have to
manually back up these files and settings unless you are doing a content database backup and restore:
Trusted data provider binaries
User-defined function assemblies
Excel Web Access Web Part properties
Office data connection files and workbook files
Let’s implement a basic example of an interactive table and then publish the workbook to Excel Services.
Authoring and Publishing
We will use some of the new features to add more functionality to the TeamTask.xlsx file we created earlier.

author the teamtasks.xlsx file and publish it to Sharepoint excel Services. then use an excel Web access Web
part to view the workbook.
Open the teamtask.xlsx file you created earlier. Create a new calculated column to compute
the difference between estimated hours and Completed hours. Name this column heading
remaining Work (hours).
Select all the other rows in the remaining Work column, and click on the Conditional
Formatting button on the home tab of the ribbon. then select Data Bars Gradient Fill, and
choose the red data bar as shown in Figure 5-13 .
