Use the
IMABS
function to return the absolute value (modulus) of a complex number in
x+yi

or
x+yj
text format.

=IMABS(inumber)

The
IMABS
function is found only if the Analysis Toolpak is installed. In addition it must be

turned on in the Add-Ins from the Tools menu. Notice the imaginar y number in Figure 5.19.

By using cell referencing the imaginar y number is converted to an absoluted value.
