Figure 4-28 demonstrates why you might want to change the position of the tick
mark labels. In this XY chart, the axes cross in the center of the chart. In the top
chart, the tick mark labels for both axes are in the default position (Next to axis). In
the chart on the bottom, the tick mark labels have been moved to the Low position
for both axes, making the chart much easier to read.
In some cases you may want to hide an axis. To do so, access the Format
Axis dialog box, select the Patterns tab, and set all options to None.

To remove an axis from the chart, use the Axes tab of the Chart Options dialog box
(see Figure 4-29). The contents of this tab will vary, depending on the chart type
and the number of axes used in the chart.
To remove an axis, just remove the checkmark from the appropriate check box.
Removing an axis also hides the axis labels (but not the axis titles). This dialog box
provides a preview, so you can get an idea of how the chart will look with or
without a particular axis.
A more direct way to remove an axis is to select it and then press Del.
