Using the Source Data dialog box to change series data
Modifying chart source data by using the range highlights is probably the
simplest method. Note, however, that this technique works only with
embedded charts (not with Chart sheets). In addition, it does not work when
the chart’s data is on a worksheet other than the sheet that contains the
embedded chart.
Using the Source Data dialog box
to change series data
Another method of modifying a series data range is to use the Source Data dialog
box. Click the chart series to select it; then choose Chart
Source Data. The Source
Data dialog box has two tabs: Data Range and Series. Figure 3-7 shows the Series tab.
The dialog box displays the name of each chart series in the Series list box.
As noted earlier in this chapter, you can use the Add button to add a new series to
your chart, or use the Remove button to delete the series that is selected in the
Series list box.

dialog box
The range selector boxes display the range addresses associated with the series
that is selected in the list box. You can use these controls to modify the ranges used
for the series name, the values, and the category labels. You can change the range
either by dragging in the worksheet or by editing the range reference directly. In
either case, the dialog box displays a live preview of the chart.
